Overview

Flag Etiquette is very important for American Legion Posts. We feel strongly that everyone should treat the flag of the United States with respect. This starts with the Pledge of Allegiance.
“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
In addition to the pledge there are other actions that we feel should be honored, such as “standing at attention” when the flag is presented. This could be while the National Anthem is being played or when it is “passing in review” such as at a parade.

As part of this Flag Etiquette we will be designing a lesson plan for elementary school children to learn about the importance of the history of the flag and what it represents. This would include audio visual presentation to peak the children’s interest.
